Republican Club "victory"
Monday, February 25, 2008
UMass Republican Club President Brad DeFlumeri declared "victory for decency" this weekend, reporting that the Radical Student Union had removed the brochures depicting two men engaging in sexual relations.
DeFlumeri sent out an e-mail the day after the Republican Club held a rally on the steps of the Student Union condemning the display of the brochures on the window of the RSU office thanking his supporters.
"Supporters of Public Decency,
As a result of the pressure applied by state lawmakers, concerned parents, alumni, and employees of the University of Massachusetts, and the awareness brought to the matter by the UMASS Republicans, the UMASS Administration on Wednesday demanded the removal of the sexually suggestive posters by the Radical Student Union. Today, atapproximately noon, the Radical Student Union finally backed down and removed the posters in question.
This marks a tremendous victory for Public Decency, of which the UMassRepublicans are a tireless and passionate defender.
We thank all of you for your support in this matter and urge you to rest assured that the UMass Republican Club is steadfastly devoted to holding other student groups and the UMass Administration to account when their liberal convictions infringe on Public Decency.
Enjoy the weekend knowing that UMass is a little less hostile toreasonable people and a little less offensive to those who work and study here.
Respectfully, Brad DeFlumeri"
As of this afternoon, one of the brochures in question has been reposted in the window of the RSU office on the second floor of the Student Union. Members of the RSU have not yet been reached for comment.
